Walter Osborn

Walter Osborn was educated for ministry at Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary (now called the Master’s College). He held his first pastoral position at First Baptist Church of Fallbrook in 1936-1940. 1940-43 he pastored the First Baptist church of El Cajon. Chaplain Walter Osborn was called to duty on March 1, 1943 as a Chaplain in the United States Army. In 1947 he was stationed in Jamaica. The Army Air Corps became the U.S. Air Force during WWII, while he served in Pacific Theater at Saipan and Guam in 1944-45. He was stationed in the Caribbean and Panama from 46-49, in Japan from 54-57, and in Labrador from 1964-65. He retired from the US Air Force in September of 1969 at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana.

After the conclusion of his military service, he pastored Meredith Heights Baptist Church of Alexandria Louisiana, 1970-1972. He enjoyed the ministry of owning and managing the Christian Book Center of Lake Charles Louisiana from 1973-81. He served in his final pastoral position for the Community Church of North Palm Springs from 1984-96, when he retired at the age of 85. He has since become legally blind and has been serving as Chaplain to the Blind/Low Vision Rehabilitation Association alumni at Birmingham Alabama, a service for blind and low vision military veterans, since 2003. He has been distributing morning and evening readings Samuel Bagster’s Daily Light by e-mail to blind or low-vision users of JAWS, or similar text-to-audio conversion software, and others who wish to receive the readings.
